One of the most meaningful ways you can support your child’s learning at home is by setting aside at least 15 minutes each day to read together. These special moments not only build language and comprehension skills but also create a love of books and shared family time.
As you read, try asking open-ended questions such as:
- “What do you think will happen next?”
- “Why do you think the character feels that way?”
- “What would you do if you were in the story?
Encourage your child to retell parts of the story in their own words, act out favorite scenes, or describe the pictures. This helps strengthen memory, sequencing, and expressive language skills.
You can also make connections between the story and real life. For example, if you’re reading about animals, talk about pets or animals your child has seen at the zoo. If the story is about friendship, ask about their friends at school.
